My dearest allies ov pvlp,
This is Dave, EiC of BZA. I’m sure you have noticed that our productivity has sharply declined over recent months. The reason for this is because my wife has been very sick. She has been battling a fairly serious ailment for many years but over the last few months her condition has worsened. I hadn’t made any of this public up until recently when I had to reveal to my colleagues why I wasn’t able to fulfill my obligations.
I want to apologize to those who have subscribed here for premium on the substack. I have not delivered the content you have paid for. We have lost several paying subscriptions and that is perfectly understandable. You folks pay for a product and that needs to be fulfilled.
Unfortunately, I may not be able to return to full steam in the foreseeable future. My wife has been in and out of extended stay in the hospital which leaves me alone to handle the house and our three children. This has left me with zero time to spend in my studio to release new books and content. I’m hamstrung.
My dear colleagues started a fundraiser for us which helped get my wife otherwise unaffordable treatment. That was a wonderful gift. But, because The Bizarchives has been neglected, its revenue streams no longer cover its costs. Like any business, we’ve had down months before. However, unlike those times, I can’t cover the small losses out of my pocket right now. Or, hustle a book sale and make the money back. I can’t put it on my back.
I love this thing with all my heart. BZA is my baby. What we’ve done here has been so beautiful. But, its future is uncertain as of right now.
We have two options. All of you guys bumrush us with a bunch of sales to prop us up until we get back to work. Or we may have to close up shop for a little while until I can get back to the grind, whenever that may be.
Whatever happens, I want to thank all of you for your support and for sharing this journey with us. We made weird fiction based again and spread thousands of books around the world. We gave a home to brilliant writers who were ignored and besmirched by the frumpy toads in corpo publishing.
If it is my fate that BZA must sink into the dark waters. The last thing the world will see is a white-knuckled fist of triumph.
I’ll be back.
(Stay tuned for great posts from BZA Columnists and other weirdness)
I can't contribute more than a little money wise, but I'll still be picking up a couple of books. Will always have a story ready for if and when you come back though big guy. Blessings to your wife and family, hoping for the best
I've got bizarchives #4 and #5, I'd happily buy #1-3 and #6 if you have physical copies to complete my set! I only saw #3 available in physical on the site.
